Bottled Water

Bottled Water is a soft drinks segment that is enjoyed by many millions of UK consumers every year.

They choose bottled water for a variety of different reasons. Bottled water is unique and offers a distinct alternative to other soft drinks. By its very nature bottled water is pure, safe and sustainable. People find bottled water is the ideal way to stay hydrated when out and about and on the go. Some consumers choose bottled water based on taste and purity and others enjoy a glass bottle of water when eating out because it is a guarantee of quality.

Strathmore Spring Water is one of the UK's leading bottled water brands. It is the number one bottled water brand in the On-trade and is created by nature in a 50 year filtration process through the sandstone layers of the Vale of Strathmore where it is drawn from an aquifer deep underground.

Bottled water is an excellent choice for anyone looking to remain hydrated at any time, anywhere during the day. Water consumption in general, provides an excellent and healthy way to stay hydrated and by its very nature bottled water is completely pure, safe and sustainably sourced. Bottled water offers the ultimate in traceability, health, convenience and choice and the very foundation of the industry is the protection of a precious natural resource and its use in a sustainable manner.

In terms of bottled water and recycling, PET bottles are 100% recyclable, and all Strathmore PET bottles are now made with 25% recyclable rPET. We have light weighted Strathmore PET bottles over a number of years and we will continue to work towards further reductions. We have achieved a 14.3% reduction in PET in Strathmore PET bottles since 2006 (since A.G.Barr acquisition).

WHY PEOPLE DRINK BOTTLED WATER

Hydration on the Go

Bottled water offers one of the easiest ways to stay hydrated throughout the day, replacing fluid that is naturally lost through normal breathing, perspiration and urination. The average person should consume two litres of fluid a day and bottled water helps many people achieve this, particularly when consumed out of the home. Bottled water provides the consumer with a natural and calorie free healthy choice. Water plays a vital role in the function of the brain, the heart, the kidneys, urinary tract, digestive system and each and every cell. Drinking water and remaining hydrated also helps maintain mental alertness and concentration. Lethargy is a classic symptom of dehydration.

Hydration at home

For the average person, bottled water is not a direct alternative to tap water. Tap water is regularly consumed at home along with a variety of other drinks, while bottled water is consumed at home by those consumers who prefer a pure product.

Reassuringly Natural

All bottled water is fully traceable. Natural Mineral and Spring Water can both be traced back to a naturally occurring source that is governed by strict regulations regarding abstraction and testing procedures. Natural Mineral and Spring Waters are purified by nature and as a result have a natural taste that many people prefer. Natural Mineral and Spring Waters are subjected to no chemical treatment.

BOTTLED WATER CRITICAL CONTRIBUTION

Emergency Relief

Bottled water is essential in many emergency situations and is often the only source of drinking water in natural disasters. In this case the easy storage, transportation and convenience make it an essential supply. 30 million litres of bottled water, enough for 150 million glasses, were distributed in 2007 to residents in Gloucestershire when floods cut off people from their homes and tap water supplies (Zenith International, 2007). In 2006, one in 30 households experienced an interuption in tap water supplies.
